When you first pick up a guitar the first thing you should do is start learning to play guitar chords, starting with the basic major and minor open chords. Learn power chords second. Try swapping between the two to get used to changing.
3. Play with other tunings.
Make sure you always play in standard tuning to start with. You can move on to other tunings when you have mastered the basics.

Use finger ease if you find that the tips of your fingers hurt during playing.
5. Take your time.
Take it slow. Learning to play guitar is a difficult task and takes time so try not to rush yourself to early on.
